    Default Design question

I do 12*12 scrapbooks for my grandchildren. Each child gets 2 scrapbooks that are about 60 pages each of all the events from that year. The scrapbooks are given to them on their birthday. My question is, should all the pages be from one kit or can each new event have a different kit? Example : birthday kit,Christmas kit, etc.

I have done books where I've used just one kit, others that used several and loved how they turned out. The wonderful thing about making your own books, you get to decide how you want them. Really I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it

I totally agree with Connie ... but would also suggest that you try to make facing pages in the same kit or matching kits

Since your books cover many events throughout the year, I would choose any kit I liked for each event. Most likely, I would stick with one kit per event (i.e., one kit for Christmas, another kit for Halloween, etc.); but that is a personal preference. Scrapbooking is all about personal preference!!!

Wow, Chan, you are one busy lady! Two 60-page books a year for each grandchild... amazing! They are so blessed to have a creative Grandma like you!

You've received some good feedback. Here's a different twist... ever think about creating a series... with a specific cover for each child that stays pretty much the same color scheme through the years. Bet that would look cool on a bookshelf... a collection of volumes, all about them!

That's a great idea! Or maybe even just make the spines the same color for each child.

I love Jan's idea and also agree with the other ladies that it is a personal preference. The only thing you have to be mindful of is that albums need a common thread to tie all the pages together. When I see books using a large number of kits that don't really match each other I feel that it's more a collection of disparate scrapbook pages. Occasionally I use multiple kits in my own personal photo book albums but I make sure that the kits all look good together and look like they belong in the one huge kit. I'm impressed that you're creating so many pages for your grandchildren! They will be forever grateful I'm sure!

Thanks so much for everyone's help. I have a lot to think about. I have decided to make scrapbooks per family, instead of each child. These are the books that I print here at home. I would like to learn more about Shutterfly and do a Christmas book for each family. If I do a book on one event, I will definitely work with only one kit. I would like to thank Jan and Susie for making us all better at this wonderful hobby.

As I read the posts here, I understand that I am breaking all the rules—are there rules? The scrapbooks I make are made over time. My children, grandchildren, and my husband and I (1 album for us), each have an expandable album that takes 8.5 x 11 sheet protectors. I make pages for events or everyday life. The pages do not coordinate except the theme of the person or persons whose book it is. Everyone enjoys the books and looks forward to new pages. For me that's what it's all about. When I began, I had no idea people made books that were coordinated. (Sigh)
