Color not changing in PSE 9

I am having trouble when I try to change colors. When the color window opens up and I click on the color that I need to use and when I click on it in the color box where it is usualy black and white the color always turns grey and none of my colors seem to appear. I have tried everything I can possibly think of to fix the problem but I am stumped. Can someone please help. Thank you so much.

Make sure you are in "color mode"... Try going to Image->Mode and make sure RGB Color is selected...

Thank you Trish. That helped. I don't even know how it got changed. I never change the color mode.

Donlt worry about it ... sometimes it seems to change and I've never worked out why
