    Default PSE 9 orangizer catalog

When I try to load the organizer, I get this message:
The default catalog could not be found. Please open or create a different catalog.

I point to the catalog and it puts it in the box showing that it sees it, but then it will not open it. Does anyone know what I need to do?

    Sue,

I'm guessing it needs repairing... Can you choose the catalog without opening and then click on "Repair" or "Recover"?

Hmm. Sounds like your catalog is "damaged". There were some guys over at the adobe forums that were helping people "repair" their catalogs. However, I haven't been checking the adobe forums in a couple of years (due to time constraints). I would see if you can get some help over there.

You know, I seem to recall something... Check in this folder:

    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\My Catalog

(or whatever the name of your "My Catalog" is)

and see if there is a status.dat file or something along those lines. I seem to recall those getting messed up and deleting those would force PSE to rebuild them and fix the problem.

But, if that doesn't work, and you go over to the Adobe forums, make sure you give details on your OS, your PSE version, and the exact steps you are taking when you open your catalog.

Thanks, Trish. I will look for that and try Adobe.

I thought about when you add things and have to delete that db3 or whatever it is, but I knew that was not the answer. Sure hope I can recover this. I had been waiting to go to PSE 10 until my organizer was ready. If I can't recover, I guess I will just make the leap now.

Here all along I thought I was "backing up" my catalog. Come to find out I was just saving the catalog, but I could not get it to open up. I had backed it up to Crash Plan and that one didn't work either. So, I had started making a new catalog for PSE 10. When I saw how much work that would be, I decided to try again with the PSE 9 catalog.

Last night I sat down with it again and that is when I guess I had an aha moment. Then I really figured out how to do a back up. So I made my back up location, then went back to the "corrupt" catalog. There is a file called Backup.tly. I backed that up to the new back up file and I was able to use my catalog again. I don't understand any of this.

Now I am going to make a back up of a back up so I can have a real back up. I am not sure I understand that either.
