Default Technique - making a paper strip look like cording

I may be in over my head, but I like challenging myself to see if I can solve a problem. I'm doing a LO regarding a hobby - sewing. I added a thin strip of paper and some stitching on the paper next to it and want to make that thin strip look like cording - you know - edging that is covered with fabric. So I have two questions. 1. How do I make it look rounded like it is filled with cording? 2. If I use it on both sides of the layout - I'm not sure how to adjust the custom shadow to be realistic? Any suggestions anyone??? Thanks - Sarah

    Sarah,

I've had some success with using the bevel effects to get a 'puffed' or filled look. I do the bevel first and then the drop shadow and it gets the look I think you're going for here. Sometimes I have to play with the different bevel effects to get one that has the right roundness.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Sarah,
My you are the ambitious one! Good for you... Let me see if I understand correctly what you're asking for. Is it either one of these (left or right)? Click on the thumbnail below to see a larger image.

    Jan,
Yes, you have it. The stitching is actually on the material next to the cording, but otherwise correct. So how do I do it? I've been experimenting with the burn and dodge tool, but yours looks much better than mine. So maybe there is something more.

    Jan,
The left one I could use on the L page of the LO and the right one would work better for the R page of the layout.
