I'm trying to do this tutorial and I get all the way down to where you erase the tops and bottoms of the strips but the eraser tool doesn't show the strokes on the top or bottoms of the columns --- it does show in the layer area though. I must be doing something wrong but can't figure out what??? Can someone help me, please???

I don't know which tut you are using, but here are a couple of thoughts:
1. Make sure the layer you want to work on is selected in the layers panel.
2. If you have made a selection with the marquee tool, be sure you go to Select>Inverse. Then everything OUTSIDE the selection will be active, and only that will erase.
Hope this helps. Other more techie-qualified people than me may jump in, but as it is late at night in most areas and I'm still up, thought I'd offer my 2 cents worth.---Shar

Do you by chance have a duplicate copy of the preview layer visible? If so, uncheck it, so it is NOT visible. Only have the layer visible that you are working on.
Good luck.Last edited by dmrdm; 04-13-2012 at 05:36 AM.

Hi Darry ...
If you look at step one of the tutorial it says to open the image and then do Image>Duplicate. I suspect that you duplicated the layer Layer>Duplicate Layer and not the image itself
.. so following the suggestion by Doris should sort it out for you.
