Default Century Gothic Font not in Dropdown list

I recently moved to new system (as noted in signature) and I have just noticed that the font, Century Gothic, is not showing up in the font dropdown list. I use Microsoft Office Starter (Microsoft Word Starter) and Century Gothic does show up in MSWS's dropdown list as an Open Type Font. The other standard fonts are all available in CS6 dropdown (as best as I can tell) and fonts that I have downloaded are also available. CS6 starts with Myriad Pro all the time, is that how everyone else's is? I use(d) century gothic a lot and so would like to "have it back"!
Anyone have any ideas for me......I don't think it should be because of Microsoft Office Starter and not a full MS package or other fonts would be affected. The other thing here is that I have assumed that CS fonts are somehow linked to a word processing package and perhaps that is an incorrect assumption!
    HELP please!

I have CS2 and when I installed it new on a laptop Century Gothic also did not show up even though it did in MS Office Starter. No idea why, but there were all sorts of weird fonts in PS.
I just solved the problem by using a font manager and either install the fonts I want temporarily or install them permanently in a few cases. Century Gothic did show up as not installed even though it was in the font list in Office. Mysterious! Sorry I can't help answering the question why that is but you are not the only one it happened to.

Glad to hear that I am not alone in this. I use ACDsee to manage my fonts and IF I could download century gothic for free I sure could use it thru ACDsee. I have learned thru the web that we can't access the guts of MSOS so cannot just go "inside" it and copy or load the font to somewhere else....not sure this statement will make sense to those of you who know what your doing! So I am still looking for a solution to my problem. Why CS6 can read some of the fonts and not others, and what to do about it?
Thanks Rikki for acknowledging my problem and providing some input to the process of solving.

Pat, is there some reason you can't just download the font and install it into your system, so it shows up in the drop down list? Or am I missing something here that you are referring to.

Century Gothic does not seem to be included with the Starter Package - only the full Micrsoft package.

You may be able to change your default font:

but only to something you currently have available.

Darcy, it is showing up in my Starter edition, too, and in my font manager. So I think it might be included, maybe depending on the country and language?

I also misread the original. I thought she couldn't access it at all.

Thanks to all of you who thought about my problem!
I have not found a solution to the problem between MSOS, CS6 and Century Gothic. I have solved my problem by buying full MSO and uninstalling Starter and installing the full version and guess what .... I now have Century Gothic in CS6. Very costly solution I must say. MSOS makes good reading on the web if anyone is interested; it seems that folks love it or hate it. Some site also indicated that some of the fonts load with it and some don't and it may vary from machine to machine. With that info I just decided to opt out of Starter; I have other things to do then fiddle with flaky free software. One would think that if a font is in the MSOS dropdown and I could use it in MSOS that it is in fact there and that CS6 could access it. Guess you can tell that I am miffed! Country is Canada and language is English but it is a thought to keep in mind.
Thanks again to all of you and perhaps this info will help someone else.

Default Found out how to get Century Gothic

I had the same problem with Century Gothic in CS6. One of the Forums out there said that you needed to do an update of the Photoshop program. Go to Help, updates.......

My next issue came when, after doing that, I got a response that said: The update server is not responding. The server might be offline temporarily, or the Internet or firewall settings may be incorrect. I had gotten this response before from Lightroom, so was stumped. Today I googled that issue since I was really wanting to see if I could get Century Gothic to show up and the information I got from a forum regarding my server issue was: to 1. Open Network and Sharing Center. 2. Change adapter settings. 3. Right-click the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, and click 'Disable'. I had to click on the red x to find the "disable".....I am running windows 7 64 bit, and this solution worked for me. I got my updates. There were several. And, when completed, Century Gothic was where it should be. Hope this helps others. I don't know if I could find the actual links anymore because I was at so many but good luck to all.
