Shadow cast by bill of a cap

I am attempting to use some action photos of my grandson at a baseball game. It was a sunshiny day in Arizona and the pictures have very good light and contrast. the exception being where the bill of his baseball cap casts a deep shadow over his eyes and almost to the tip of his nose. I have tried working with the entire picture, but that does not seem to work. Any suggestions would be surely be appreciated.

Try using the dodge tool to lighten the shadow from the bill of the hat. In the toolbar where you select the brush size, choose a soft edge brush, select shadows in the range field, and then maybe 10 percent for exposure. Now brush over the area that falls in the shadow. You can repeat as needed as well as change your percent of exposure till you lighten it up enough you are happy and it doesn't look painted. Hope this helps.

This one lightens the whole photo but you can use this approach and if you're familiar with masks you can mask out the light you don't want.

What about trying the Shadows/Highlights feature to get rid of the shadow?

I've had really good luck using the tip for the 'missing mask' tutorial that Doris put the link for. I've used it several times and it really helps.
