Thanks Nancy for the tutorial. This was a lot of fun to play with tonight. I forgot all about my headache :-) I will play around with this some more. I also did this using different layers and different types of gradients with transparent layers. This is a sample of the same layers with different blending modes and huestaturation layers. There is one background layer, one stripe layer and 1 additional one in the lower right example. The lower left is just colorized.

Your tutorial was so easy and the process so much fun, I think I'm going to half to buy more computer memory I would love for you all to have some of my attempts however, not sure if its ok to give a link to www.yousendit.com to download the zip file here in this forum - So if anyone wants to scream at me for doing this no-no I will promise never to do it again I could not figure out how to decrease the file size to below 2MB for each file. So I zipped them up (about 28 MB) and here they are - Enjoy!

I'm glad it worked okay for you. It is a load of fun and makes some great backgrounds. Don't forget to use some custom shapes to "cut out" the color from the background to create some great looking shapes for your regular pages too like I did with the star .

I did do by accident once backgroung to my work with this.
Then I just used black and light brown-colours.

Now I used your advice and one result is her to be watched:
