Quiz Your Design Smarts
February 15, 2022 | Digital Scrapper News | Volume 20, Issue 7
Hi there!
Two things.
- I obsess over your success. I’m serious! It’s important to me.
- I am committed to helping you become a better scrapbooker.
For that reason, Jenifer Juris and I have set out on a journey to help you recognize and apply solid design principles to your scrapbook pages.
Page Design Quiz #3
Take a look at this . . .
These two scrapbook pages are identical, apart from the background paper. In respect to page design, the page on the left is bad and the page on the right is good. But, why?
Why is the left-side background paper bad? (Choose ONE correct answer.)
- The left-side background paper has an overwhelming pattern.
- The left-side background paper has overwhelming color.
- The left-side background paper is from a different color family as the elements.
First, let me say that the left-side background paper is a problem because it’s drawing the focus away from the photos instead of toward them.
The Quiz Answer. The left-side background paper is bad because it has overwhelming color.
The pattern of the left-side background paper is okay and so is the hue (color family). The problem is that the left-side background paper is too saturated (overwhelming color).
The Solution. The solution to the problem paper is to replace it with a paper that is more light or neutral, as I have done with the right-side example above. You’ll find another example of this design problem in a new video in our Fundamentals classroom. Get the details below.
