🧡 3 Ways You Can Scrap a More Real Picture of Who You Are

February 27, 2024 | Digital Scrapper News | Volume 22, Issue 9

Hi there!

“If anyone could see me now, they’d think I was ridiculous!”

Do those words ever come out of your mouth, or is it just me? One of my favorite things to do is to giggle at myself. So, any time I do something ridiculous that makes me laugh, I snap a photo to remind myself that I’m not as put together as I think I am. It keeps me humble(r).

For example, as I was working at the island in my kitchen, I was a bit put off that my tea kept getting cold. So in my brain, it made sense to grab the wire rack from the microwave and put a burning candle under it. Well this wasn’t tall enough, so I spent a half hour trying to find something to hoist the rack up just a wee bit. Granola bars to the rescue. Problem solved! At last — every sip I took literally burned my lips off.

Let me just restate . . . If anyone could see me now, they’d think I was ridiculous!

Keeping It Real
One of the many things I dislike about social media is that it rarely depicts real life. Most people only share things that make them look good. But that’s not a good picture of who a person really is. This year especially, I’m trying hard to make sure my scrapbooks show who I really am—the good, the bad, and the ridiculous.

3 Ways You Can Scrap a More Real Picture of Who You Are

  • Take More Photos. It’s easy to remember to whip out your camera phone during big, handsome events. But what about the ups, downs, and mundane moments of everyday life? Get into the habit of snapping it all. It doesn’t cost you anything to take more photos, but it will help you to remember and share real life.
  • Don’t Dress It Up. Your photos don’t have to be perfect. Don’t worry about cleaning your house before you take photos. It’s okay if you haven’t put on makeup. Kids always have messy faces; there’s no need to spit-shine them before you snap the photo. These are all things that make you more relatable, more real.
  • Speak From the Heart. The best journaling you can do on a scrapbook page is the babbling kind. It’s the kind where you can hear tone of voice and really get a sense of what the speaker is feeling. It’s okay to use incomplete sentences and it’s totally okay to ramble on. Just speak from the heart and be real.
