Who are you talking to when you journal on a scrapbook page?

Sit and think about it for a minute. Are you journaling with a specific person in mind? If not, let me show you how this can easily help to transform your journaling from flat to fancy-like.

Step One: Find your favorite reader. (Don’t skip this step!)

From my point of view, a favorite reader is someone who just loves to hear you talk and hangs on your every word.

Did you just roll your eyes?? If you’re like me, you also probably just had a little giggle. This likely does not describe very many people in your life.

For me, my grandsons love it when I invite them into a story. I would say that my mother usually does too. And even though she’s no longer living, my mother-in-law was always interested in all the details of our lives. I can distinctly remember her lighting up when we described our latest adventure.

This is the kind of person you are looking for. 

In fact, your person doesn’t even have to be someone you really know! I’ve been blessed many times by comments in Community. When you know that someone has enjoyed reading your journaling, it makes you want to do more. So, Community could be your favorite reader. And if you’re really struggling to find your person, you can make it ME! I love to be invited into a story. The more details, the better!

Step Two: Don’t leave out the details.

Imagine for a minute that you are inviting an 8-year-old into the story on your scrapbook page.

You say, “This is Cadillac Mountain. I really liked it.”
She looks at you with a quizzical face. “Why?”

And you know how this scenario goes, don’t you? She gives you a quizzical look, wanting more information, and you don’t stop feeding her curiosity until a broad smile appears and she gazes at you with adoration for the story you just invited her into.

If you fill in all the details of your story, your favorite reader will celebrate (or commiserate) with you. If you leave out the details, your story is going to fall flat every single time; I guarantee it.

Transforming your journaling from flat to fancy-like is just that easy. Tell it to your favorite reader and don’t skimp on the details.
