Hi there!

This past week, I was creating some slides for a lesson in my next class, and I noticed that the type layers weren’t quite right.

As soon as I noticed it, I did an internal groan. The kind of groan that expresses, “This is nobody’s fault but your own.”

Not only was the Tracking not set to 0, but the Baseline Shift was set to -9. I’m usually good about remembering to reset the Character panel (I usually work in Photoshop) before starting a new project. But this time, I had forgotten.

The reason for the groan is that now I had to go back and fix countless type layers in my slides so that the Tracking and Baseline Shift would be correct.

So the moral of the story today is to learn from my mistakes. Get into the habit of resetting your Type tool or Character Panel before you start a new project. It only takes a second, and you’ll be so glad you did.

If you don’t know how to do it, here’s what you can do:

  • In Photoshop Elements, get the Type tool. In the Tool Options, click to open the Flyout Menu and choose Reset Tool.
  • In Adobe Photoshop, in the Menu Bar, choose Window > Character to open the Character Panel. In the Character Panel, click to open the Flyout Menu and choose Reset Character.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Love and creative success,
